LA Zoo and Botanical Gardens
The Los Angeles Zoo is not quite as famous as it’s larger cousin in San Diego but the zoo is well worth a visit. LA Zoo has over 950 animals and is located in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. During weekends and holidays the zoo can get very busy. It is recommended that you arrive at opening time, 10 AM to avoid the crowds. It takes about half a day to explore the LA ZOO. Because the zoo is built into the side of a hill in Griffith Park there is a lot of climbing. Some of the younger kids will probably get tired out quickly. The trick is to to hop aboard the Safari Shuttle tram for a quick trip to the back of the Zoo. Then work your way back down the hill toward the main entrance. You can get on and off the tram as often as you like at six different stop, and it it only costs 4 dollars. LA Zoo in a single day plus you can get up close to many of the animals. The Zoo has the usual animals plus some shows and activities. Shows: World of Birds Show and Adventure Theatre. Activities: Winnick Family Children’s Zoo, Riordan Kids Korner and Neil Papiano Play Park. The LA Zoo is a medium size zoo and is a great place to take kids on a day trip.
