Amtrak Pacific Surfliner
Amtrak Pacific Coastliner trains run from San Diego all the way up to San Luis Obispo. Taking a family trip on these sleek double deck trains is a great way to see the California coast. In some areas the train tracks run parallel to the beach for miles and miles. (Be sure to ask your train conductor which side of the train to sit on for the best view.) A trip from Anaheim to San Diego will take a little under three hours and the train will reach a top speed of 79 mph. Not fast compared to high speed trains of Europe and Japan, but the California scenery can not be matched anywhere in the world. For a fun family adventure away from your car consider taking the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner.
